The Miami Dolphins are going to probably fall short of the goal line in their bid to get help for stadium renovations.

Sen. Oscar Braynon, D-Miami Gardens, called the outlook for any bill that helps the Dolphins ``bleak'' shortly after meeting with House Speaker Will Weatherford.

The Florida Senate has passed two bills that would help the Dolphins and other professional sports franchises and sent them to the House.

The bills would create a process where pro teams would compete for $13 million a year in state incentives. But they would also let the Dolphins tap into local taxes to help pay for renovations to Sun Life Stadium. Miami-Dade voters are scheduled to vote May 14 on a referendum to help the team.

The session ends at midnight on Friday.

Miami jumped up nine spots to pick up a defensive end from Oregon who may not make it to training camp, but they didn't give up much for him.  The Raiders only required one of two second round picks the Dolphins were holding onto at the time and a switch of the teams' first rounders.  Miami picked Dion Jordan with the third overall selection. 

Experts say the Fins' number 2 selection, Jamar Taylor, CB, was a safer pick, as he is expected to be good enough to join the team and solidify a portion of the secondary on day one. 

The offensive lineman picked in the third round, Dallas Thomas, is expected to be better at guard than tackle and the team really needs a left tackle to replace Jake Long.  According to reports, Miami is working on a deal with free agent OT Eric Winston.  Click Here.  They may also be still working out a trade with Kansas City for Branden Albert, which looked dead after the draft.  Word is KC would take a second rounder in 2014.  Click Here.

The Miami Dolphins were expected to make the 12th overall selection in the NFL Draft on Thursday night, but while the Oakland Raiders were on the clock at number 3, that changed.

With just a couple of minutes left, a deal was apparently struck between the two teams.  The Fins got the 3rd overall pick in the draft, in exchange for their original first round choice and the first of two second round selections that Miami had at the time. 

With that third pick in the draft, the Dolphins got Dion Jordan, a defensive end out of Oregon. 

The guy sounds and looks like a stud, 6'6", 248 pounds, and at least one expert compared him to Jason Taylor.

Most of those experts thought that if Miami was going to trade up in the draft, it would be for an offensive lineman to replace left tackle Jake Long, who left the team during free agency.  Others thought cornerback may be the place to go for the Fins. 

Still, fans appear to be happy with the pick, by the look of the smiles on the faces of those at the team's draft party at Sunlife Stadium.
