If you were hoping to watch the Miami Dolphins play the New York Jets, but you didn't plan on going to the game, you're in luck. The team has announced they have sold-out the game in time to avoid a blackout.
Miami has to sell 85% of their lower and upper bowl, non premium seats by 72 hours before kickoff in order to have the game shown on TV in the local market.
The Dolphins had to request a 24 hour extension on the deadline, but announced Friday afternoon that Sunday's game has been deemed a sell-out. In fact, team CEO Mike Dee says the Dolphins had their most one-week ticket activity in two years. This after Miami routed the Oakland Raiders at Sun Life Stadium last weekend by a score of 35 - 13.
Still, the team faces a chance that at least one regular season home game will be blacked out this season, for the first time since 1998.
If the Dolphins struggled to sell out a game against AFC East rival New York Jets, when the visiting team often gets the true "home field advantage" in South Florida, how are they going to sell out games against such teams as the Seahawks, Jaguars, Titans and Rams, which is the team Miami was playing 14 years ago, when the last regular season game was blacked out.
Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene has reportedly said that the practice of the team purchasing any leftover tickets to avoid a blackout will be discontinued at some point this season, though he hasn't said when. We also don't know if that was case with this "sell-out".

JOEL'S PICK
I don't want hate mail for disagreeing with the lovely Frances from Real Radio, but I have to.
She picked the Dolphins to win vs. the Jets and I just don't see it happening, especially since I learned that there is a nearly 100% chance that perhaps the best cornerback in the NFL will play.
Darrelle Revis, was cleared for contact this week in practice with the Jets and told the press that he will play. In fact, Revis said something to the effect of "I can beat my head against a wall if I want to".
Now, one player doesn't account for an entire team, but Revis' presence could be enough to rattle rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill and pick him off at least once.
Jets win: 30-17
